Top 9 Sakura Spots in Tohoku & Hokkaido

| Tohoku Resorts , Hokkaido

Northern Japan gets its cherry blossoms later than the rest of the country. So even if you've missed the first round of sakura to the south, you can often catch late blooms in Tohoku and Hokkaido as late as the end of April or even early May. Some years you can even enjoy hanami (cherry blossom viewing) during the Golden Week holiday!

Zooming Japan has compiled an incredible list of nine spots in Tohoku and Hokkaido where you can catch late cherry blossoms, from the star-shaped Goryokaku Fort in Hakodate (above) to Kaminoyama Castle in Yamagata. The list includes big names like Hirosaki Castle and Kakunodate as well as lesser-known sites like Akita's Senshu Park. Check it out below!
