Persimmons: Only $1,000 Each!
One of the weird and fun things about Japan are insanely expensive fruits. Including a box of persimmons that fetched 100,000 yen in the season’s first auction in Ishikawa Prefecture.

Mombei persimmons are known for their smooth texture and sweetness. Those that weigh more than 300 grams and have high sugar content are considered "premium." About 50 tons of luxury persimmons will be shipped from central Japan through late December. Six of the premium-ranked fruit fetched 100,000 yen in the season's first auction on October 31.
The winning bidder hopes the price tag will encourage farmers to make even better products.
