Traditional Tsugaru-Style Shamisen Rocks

Famous Japanese author Osamu Dazai was born here in Goshogawara, Aomori Prefecture, and some 70,000 people visit his house each year. Many also visit the nearby Tsugaru Shamisen Hall, where shamisen artist Yukari Hasegawa performs 20 minutes sets.

Tsugaru shamisen is both an instrument and style that originated in this region. It is noteworthy for its distinct sound made by striking the strings, which sound different depending on where they are struck. In between sets, Hasegawa gives lessons. She believes that playing a shamisen yourself is the perfect way to get to know the Tsugaru region!
