Sapporo's Snow Festival Going Online This Year

Festivals Snow Sapporo Hokkaido

The annual Sapporo Snow Festival kicked off on February 4 amid the novel coronavirus pandemic. But this year, it's taking place online for the first time in its 70-year history to prevent the spread of the virus.

Viewers will be able to see how the snow sculptures are made and learn about the history of the festival on the official website until the end of February. The popular event attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators each year. Organizers say more than 2 million people visited last year.
