Evolution From Apes, the latest five-song EP from Japanese metal band Her Name In Blood, opens with the thunderous “Last Day,” vocalist Ikepy commanding us to take advantage of the moment and “go insane!”

“Revolver” instructs us with equal fervency to “get fucked up,” and breaks up the song mid-way to drop us into a head-slamming rhythm of war-chant riffs and sledgehammer drums.

Such unapologetic, brutal and volatile masculinity courses through this entire EP that the question arises: Have we really “evolved” so far when it’s so easy (and so fun) to return to our primal natures?
