3. The Festival of Lights & Fireworks Display
Along a promenade stretching 500 meters (1,640 ft) along the river from the hot spring town of Ochiaibashi to Izumi Park, the light of roughly 1,000 quietly flickering bamboo lanterns is used to illuminate the surface of the Chitose River. You can also see a fireworks display, where the autumn sky is lit up by the lights of more than 3,000 fireworks representing stillness and change, including 80 majestic enshu tezutsu (handheld cylinder) fireworks.

Held every year, the next Marine Fireworks Festival will take place on November 3, 2016. The fireworks, fired from two locations in the sea, are a sight to behold. We recommend watching them from the beach.

There are lots of tea rooms along the Oku-Yugawara walking course where you can enjoy traditional Japanese tea as you gaze at the leaves.
