Cycling the Arakawa: A River Runs Through Tokyo
A father and son ride along the Arakawa River, from Tokyo’s eastern edge to riverside parks, lakes, farms and a much-loved gelato stop.
Mark Schilling
I have been reviewing Japanese films for “The Japan Times,” Japan’s oldest English-language newspaper, since 1989, covering Japan for Hollywood trade publication “Variety” since 2005 and serving as a program advisor for the Udine Far East Film Festival, Europe’s largest festival of Asian cinema, since 2000. I also wrote the original story for "Convenience Story," a film directed by Miki Satoshi that opened in Japan in August, 2022 and was screened at festivals around the world.
