Snow Crab Season Starts in Central Japan
48 boats left Echizen Port and put out their nets. Roughly an hour later, they caught heaps of Echizen-gani, a snow crab the area is famous for. The shellfish is a seasonal delicacy. It attracts many tourists to the area once the fishing season begins.
Fishing of the male crabs will run through next March. Officials hope it will revitalize the fishing town hard-hit by the ongoing coronavirus epidemic.
