Record 1,000 New Coronavirus Cases in Japan

The number of new cases of the novel coronavirus in Japan rose above 1,000 in one day for the very first time. As of 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 1,127 new cases were recorded in the country.

Tokyo saw over 200 new cases for two straight days, while Osaka in western Japan recorded over 200 new cases for the first time.

Other areas in Japan are also seeing record high numbers of people infected with the virus. Iwate Prefecture in northern Japan saw its first case of coronavirus, meaning now every prefecture in Japan has a history of at least one case of someone infected with the virus.
