Japan PM Vows Aid to Rain-Battered Kumamoto
Prime Minister Abe Shinzo visited the disaster-stricken areas of Kumamoto Prefecture, which have been devastated by heavy rains on Japan's southwestern island, Kyushu.
By NIPPON TV NEWS 24 JAPANThe prime minister inspected disaster sites and evacuation centers. Abe also offered a silent prayer in the village of Kuma, where 14 people at a nursing home died due to flooding from a nearby river.
He says he is putting together 400 billion yen from the government’s disaster recovery and reserve funds, and will allocate the aid as quickly as possible.
