Ameyoko was originally a street (yokocho) that served as a black market for U.S. goods (Amerika in Japanese) and candies (ame) after World War II—thus it's name comes from a mashup of all those elements.

Nowadays, it's known as a prime spot for finding cheap cosmetics, bargains for fashion, and street food. It's in a convenient area to just drop by after exploring Ueno Park and its various museums.

Location: 4 Chome-9-14 Ueno, Taito City, Tokyo 110-0005
