It is the final resting place of shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate that ruled over Japan for over 250 years. The shrine consists of a complex of a dozen different buildings, the most notable of which is a 5-story pagoda, set in the middle of a forest.
