It's November 10: Happy Toilet Day!

Toilets

Did you know that November 10 is Toilet Day? That’s right: while not officially recognized on any administrative level, the date is celebrated by the group of planners, researchers and designers who founded the Japan Toilet Association on May 15, 1985. This group also holds an annual National Toilet Symposium to discuss improvement of public facilities.

Why November 10? Well, it’s a Japanese pun. November is the 11th month, and 11 looks like ii, the Japanese word for good. And 10 can be read as to. And if you have toilets on the mind, it’s easy to expand ii to into ii to-i-re, or ii toire—Japanese for "good toilet," which is what the Japan Toilet Association is all about.

So enjoy your good toilet and have a Happy Toilet Day!
