On December 19, 2017, Hollywood superstar Will Smith attended the Tokyo premiere of the Netflix original movie Bright.

Asked what he likes about Japan, Smith quips, "I prefer it in June to December"—and while he may be referring to the temperature, he seems to be forgetting that June is the rainy season, and probably the one time of year Japan's not so great for tourism.

Smith quickly adds, "I've been coming for years. The first time I ever saw a phone with a camera on it I saw it in Japan." Expanding on his fascination with Japanese technology, he says, "We used to go to Akihabara all of the time looking for something new."

And what's the appeal of Bright? "It's action. And it's funny. And there's sort of an interesting social message happening," Smith says, explaining that the film features a modern-fantasy society where orcs face discrimination from humans.

Directed by David Ayer, Bright co-stars Joel Edgerton and Noomi Rapace. It was released worldwide on December 22, 2017.
