The official trailer of the anime movie Sayonara no Asa ni Yakusoku no Hana wo Kazaro (さよならの朝に約束の花をかざろう, roughly translated as Let Us Adorn the Morning of Farewells with Flowers) was released on December 14, 2017.

The film marks the directorial debut of Mari Okada, who was screenwriter for various anime, including the series Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day (あの日見た花の名前を僕達はまだ知らない。・Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai) and the movie The Anthem of the Heart (心が叫びたがってるんだ。Kokoro ga Sakebitagatterunda).

The movie centers around Maquia (voice of Manaka Iwami), who, as an Iolph, is blessed with long life. Warned that love is the doorway to loneliness, she nonetheless finds and raises a war orphan, Aliel (Miyu Irino), who grows up while she remains the same age. The film's lush visuals have drawn comparison to the works of Makoto Shinkai, director of the mega-hit anime film Your Name.

The theme song, "Viator," is performed by singer-songwriter Rionos. Sayonara no Asa ni Yakusoku no Hana wo Kazaro ("Sayoasa") opens in Japan on February 24, 2018.
