At the lighting ceremony, Yomiuriland presented medical representatives with 20,000 free tickets to the park. One male medical worker told NTV24, "I’ve been working at the hospital continuously since January so it’s amazing to see that such a beautiful place exists in the world." Another professional said, "We’re in for a long battle so I hope colleagues will be able to relax here."

This is the 11th year that Yomiuriland is hosting large-scale illuminations. The event will last through April 4, 2021.
