No Halloween Gathering in Shibuya in 2020

| Halloween , Life in Japan

On the last day of October the iconic Scramble Crossing in Tokyo’s Shibuya Ward draws thousands of people eager to celebrate Halloween. The rowdiness of previous years' celebrations have lead to increased scrutiny, and this year local authorities are asking people not to come for fears of COVID-19.

Instead, Shibuya Ward will organize a virtual Halloween event. Officials also plan to cancel the New Year countdown, which attracts more than 100,000 visitors to the famous crossing.
