Sea Surface Temperatures in Japan Soar
The temperatures of sea surfaces off eastern, central and western Japan soared in August. Officials of the Japan Meteorological Agency said that the monthly average was the highest since they began keeping records in 1982.

The pink area indicating water surface temperature of 30 degrees has increased significantly since 30 years ago. The officials warned that typhoons traveling over warmer sea surfaces could develop more strength. The 10th storm of the season is expected to occur shortly and approach the Japanese archipelago this weekend.
