Deer Dare to Cool Down in Ditch

Animals Summer Nara Tokai Region

As heat waves continue across Japan, some deer in Nara in the western part of the country have found an unusual spot to cool down.

A herd of deer was spotted in a gutter by a road, trying to escape the scorching sun. The city has experienced soaring temperatures for over a week, hitting nearly 38° Celsius (100° F) on August 21.

The shady ditch is located in front of the Nara prefectural government office. Other deer cooled off under mist generators set up for people over the summertime.
