Japan Domestic Air Travel Down 65% in August

Airport Flight Holidays

The number of passengers traveling by air within Japan during the summer holiday season in August dropped 65% from last year.

Airline companies said that about 1.24 million people flew domestically between August 7 and 16. The figure from the same period in 2019 was around 3.54 million.

In late July, the Japanese government launched the Go To Travel subsidy campaign to promote domestic tourism, but many people have likely avoided traveling as the spread of coronavirus infections continues in the country.
