Japan Eases Domestic Travel Restrictions

People flocked to airports and major train stations as Japan eased domestic travel restrictions, even as the government had asked people not to cross prefectures as part of measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Some travelers from the capital took the Shinkansen bullet train to go to other parts of Japan. One couple interviewed was headed to the western prefecture of Kagawa. Central Japan Railway said it has increased the number of bullet trains on Friday evening as many people have reserved seats. Haneda Airport also saw many travelers.

To deal with the anticipated rise in the number of passengers, Japan Airlines increased its flights from Monday. All Nippon Airways plans to do so from July.
