Tokyo Governor Asks for Restraint

On Monday, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike called on Tokyoites to avoid nightlife to help check the novel coronavirus.

Last week, she asked the city to stay home as much as possible, including on weekends and weeknights, as infections spiked.

At a press conference Monday night, Koike singled out bars, nightclubs and other nighttime establishment as places where the virus could spread and asked people not to go.

She cited a government report that pointed to such businesses as a possible source of infection for 38 people who were unaware of how they had contracted the virus.
