Itoman Gyomin Shokudo was designed by architect Kentaro Yamazaki, whose design for this Okinawan seafood restaurant stayed true to the local tradition and culture. He did this by using the same building techniques and materials that were historically used by fishermen from the Itoman region of Okinawa, called Nozura-Zatsuzumi—the stacking of Ryukyu limestone to create walls. The restaurant's truly breathtaking exterior demonstrates a pleasing appreciation for the ancestry of its architecture.
