Two New Resorts Open on the Naruto Coast This Summer
Glamping under the stars and a lifestyle hotel by the sea–Tokushima’s most dramatic shoreline finally has places to stay that match the location.
By AAJ Editorial TeamThe Naruto coast has always had the scenery. This summer, it finally has the places to stay.
On July 31, 2026, GLAMPREMIER Naruto and Hotel O. Naruto open simultaneously, bringing two distinct stays to one of Japan’s most dramatic stretches of coastline–and doing so side by side, as neighbors sharing the same sea views.
More Than Whirlpools: The Two Faces of Naruto
Naruto is best known for its whirlpools–among the largest in the world. They are visible from the Uzuno-Michi walkway on the Onaruto Bridge or from sightseeing boats, where the force of the tidal currents makes the water boil and spin in ways that are genuinely hard to believe. It is a spectacle of raw natural power.
But the same coastline opens into something else entirely: the tranquil waters of the Seto Inland Sea, with its gentle shores, soft light, and the kind of quietness that invites you to slow down. At Naruto Uchino-Umi General Park, visitors can stroll or cycle with the sea breeze at their backs. Naruto, in other words, offers two completely different relationships with the ocean–and this summer, two new resorts are designed to help guests experience both.

Sleeping Under the Stars: GLAMPREMIER Naruto
Guest room "Naruto"
GLAMPREMIER Naruto is the first large-scale glamping resort in the Naruto area. Set against unobstructed ocean views, it offers a range of accommodation types: dome tents, dog-friendly tents for guests traveling with their pets, and suite villas with private jacuzzis for those who want a little more luxury.
Activities cover the full range of what this coastline offers: stand-up paddleboarding, cycling, campfires, and a barrel sauna with ocean views. BBQ courses built around local Naruto seafood and regional ingredients round out the evenings. The grounds include a tree-lined Outdoor Garden and a sea-facing Courtyard, both designed for settling into.
Time spent here, with nothing but the sound of waves, has a way of making everyday life feel very far away.

Built Around the Sea: Hotel O. Naruto
Next door, Hotel O. Naruto takes a different approach–less about the outdoors per se and more about the sea as a total atmosphere. The hotel is built around the concept “Enjoy our O!! ∼Oniwa × Osoto × Ocean∼”—where Oniwa (garden), Osoto (outdoors), and Ocean become the three pillars of a stay.
It is a slightly abstract idea that becomes concrete the moment you arrive: the Courtyard and Outdoor Garden face the sea, where bonfires and evening illuminations create an intimate, almost dreamlike atmosphere after dark. A lounge and an ocean-view barrel sauna let guests take in the Naruto scenery at their own pace.

The hotel also proposes a range of outdoor experiences drawing on the natural spots nearby—picnic breakfasts and cycling routes. It is precisely the kind of unhurried, nature-close travel that the Seto Inland Sea coast does best.
Dinner is a course menu served in a restaurant overlooking the sea, with dishes built around local ingredients from Tokushima and Naruto.

A Coast Worth the Journey
Naruto offers a rare kind of simplicity: the freedom to do nothing but watch the sea. Mornings begin with a gentle ocean breeze; evenings soften into the characteristic palette of the Seto Inland Sea at dusk.
This summer, two new resorts make that experience more accessible than ever. Whether you arrive for the whirlpools, the silence of the shore, or simply to let the sea do its work, Naruto now has somewhere worthy of the scenery.
