Dolls to Celebrate the Well-Being of Boys

Festivals Weird Japan Shizuoka

Unique dolls that are designed for boys are being exhibited in Shizuoka Prefecture, southwest of Tokyo. Japan celebrates Girl’s Day on March 3, and Children’s Day on May 5 to wish for the well-being of girls and boys, respectively.

But Shida district celebrates both of the events on April 3 before the tea-harvesting season peaks in May. People in the area traditionally display these male dolls and different female dolls to wish for good health and happiness for children. All of the around 80 dolls that are being showcased were collected from local residents. The exhibition will run until April 3.
