Suga is actually the first head of government to hail from Akita. A traditional Japanese confectionery store in Akita City is selling special sweets to commemorate the occasion. The sweets replicate the facial features of the new prime minister, and is affectionately named “Suga-chan”.

The sweets first went on sale on September 12th. The shop owners say they make just 50 a day, but they sell out immediately.
