We've been fans of filmmaker Osamu Hasegawa since he released Kyoto Japan - Hyper Motion in spring 2015. At the end of 2016, he followed up with the release of his second 4K Kyoto video, Kyoto - Timeless Beauty in 4K.

While Hyper Motion was a slick, techno-soundtracked mash-up of cool scenes from the city, Timeless Beauty opens with a more refined, narrated introduction to Japan's ancient capital, featuring graceful shots of the majestic city and its surrounds. Then the strings kick in, and we go for a dive.

Using a brilliant combinations of drones, glidecams and time-lapse photography, Hasegawa takes us along the Sagano Scenic Railway (or Sagano Romantic Train) and through a Hozu-gawa River Boat Ride from Tamba-Kameoka to Arashiyama before giving us beautiful scenes of the pagoda at To-ji Temple and a quick flash of the rock garden at Ryoan-ji Temple.

This is a highlight sequence of much of the best of Kyoto, including the aqueduct at Ninna-ji Temple, various angles of Kiyomizu-dera and the bamboo groves at both Kodai-ji Temple in the east and Arashiyama in the west.

We're treated to both spring and fall, with night shots of and from Kyoto Tower and a sweeping pass through the thousands of orange torii gates at Fushimi Inari-Taisha Shrine—and much more in between! Even if you've visited Kyoto a dozen times, it's certain Hasegawa has picked up on a few spots that will make you want to go back for another look!
