Booking.com Announces Its 10 Travel Predictions for 2026

Online travel agency Booking.com has released its list of ten “Travel Predictions” for 2026. Based on a survey of around 30,000 travelers from 33 countries and regions around the world, the theme is “The Era of YOU.” The report highlights new styles of travel that combine technology with individual tastes and values, such as trips that immerse travelers in fantasy worlds, stays where robots handle household chores, and wellness getaways that incorporate beauty-focused technology.

Stories, robots, beauty tech: ten ways to travel “in your own way”

This year’s trend forecast is the tenth edition of the report that Booking.com has been publishing annually. The latest survey revealed that travelers have a strong desire to let their individuality shine. It suggests that we are entering an era in which people want to enjoy “hyper-personalized trips” together with those who know them best.

The ten trends are as follows:

・“Romantasy Retreats”: trips that immerse travelers in fantasy stories
・“Humanoid Homes”: next-generation stays with robots
・“Turbulence Test”: journeys that put the strength of relationships to the test
・“Self-ie Souvenirs”: trips that fill your kitchen shelves with stories
・“Roadtrip Reward”: journeys where the road itself becomes the main attraction
・“Destined-ations”: destinations chosen by the stars
・“Glow-cations”: beauty-and-wellness trips powered by technology
・“Hushed Hobbies”: retreats where you can focus on your hobbies in quiet nature
・“PastPorts”: trips that revisit memories and reunite with the past
・“Modern Milestone Missions”: journeys to quietly celebrate personal milestones

Among these, “Romantasy Retreats” refers to trips that dive into the worlds of novels and games. Travelers might choose destinations with towns or landscapes that resemble their favorite fantasy works, or bring outfits and accessories that match the mood of the story to enjoy themed photo sessions.

“Humanoid Homes” imagines vacation rentals where everyday chores are assisted by features such as robot vacuum cleaners, robot chefs, and smart home systems, suggesting a “futuristic stay” that feels like an extension of daily life.

There is also a clear focus on caring for both body and mind. “Glow-cations” introduce the idea of combining tools that check skin condition with adjustable lighting and other features, treating the stay itself as dedicated time for beauty and rest. “Hushed Hobbies” describes trips that center on spending quiet time in nature, concentrating on activities such as fishing, reading, or birdwatching—a style that suggests growing interest in calm, unhurried travel rather than busy sightseeing.

“PastPorts” features trips where travelers use AI-powered photo mapping and other tools to identify locations from old photographs and return to those meaningful places. “Modern Milestone Missions” focuses on journeys taken to mark personal milestones such as promotions, job changes, or reaching a diet goal. Instead of treating travel as a completely separate special event, this perspective sees it as an extension of everyday life—“something you do for yourself.”

Booking.com believes that thinking about which of these ten types of trips comes closest to what people want to experience might change how they choose their destination and how they spendtime.
