A herd of deer was spotted in a gutter by a road, trying to escape the scorching sun. The city has experienced soaring temperatures for over a week, hitting nearly 38° Celsius (100° F) on August 21.

The shady ditch is located in front of the Nara prefectural government office. Other deer cooled off under mist generators set up for people over the summertime.
