The Tokyo Olympic organizers have removed the giant Olympic rings at Odaiba Marine Park to protect it from decay.

The move comes nearly seven months after the rings were first set up this January. Organizers had initially planned to let the rings remain until August 9, the last day of the 2020 Olympics before it was postponed.

But they ultimately decided to temporarily remove the Olympic symbol to protect it from typhoons and deterioration due to the ocean.

Officials plan to return it to the Marine Park by early December, after inspection and maintenance.
