YouTuber Arrested for Theft Positive for COVID

A YouTuber infected with the novel coronavirus traveled to Yamaguchi Prefecture in western Japan on July 10. The man gathered people together using social media, dined out and interacted with them without wearing a mask. So far two of those he met with have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Officials of Yamaguchi Prefecture are calling on anyone who came into contact with the YouTuber to come forward. So far 17 people have consulted with the prefectural government in the case.

At a press conference on Friday, July 17, Yamaguchi Governor Muraoka Tsugumasa said he cannot believe that someone would interact with several people without wearing a mask.

Police arrested the YouTuber on July 11 for eating food at a grocery store before purchasing it and posting the video on social media. After the arrest, he tested positive for coronavirus.
