Tokyo Ward Begins Drive-Through COVID Testing

Tokyo’s Edogawa Ward began drive-through PCR testing for the novel coronavirus on Wednesday, April 22. Medical facilities in the ward were the first in Tokyo to introduce the test method. People can get their samples taken using swabs through the car window, reducing contact between patients and preventing the spread of infections.

Ward officials said patients can make reservations for the drive-through tests based on their doctors’ decision so they do not have to go through local health care centers. They urged people to first consult their doctors by telephone.

Edogawa Ward also started offering a service in which COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms can recuperate at hotels operated by the ward.
