Buddhist Temple Decked Out in Historical Hunks

Temple visits have played an important role in Japan historically, but these days the concept of a temple being patronized by local families has fallen by the wayside. Kokujoji Temple is hoping to attract more visitors with provocative, anime-style drawings of historical figures from the region.

Interestingly, the plan seems to be working! These attention-grabbing works of art adorning the walls of the temple have been attracting more visitors, and have the head of the temple brainstorming new ways to promote events throughout the year.
