Japan has always prided itself in juxtaposing the old with the new, and a technologically advanced robot that can perform the traditional art of shodo perfectly exemplifies this trait.

Folks at Keio University in Tokyo have developed a robot that uses a sensitive motion copy system to create delicate Japanese shodo calligraphy, which has traditionally been considered an art form. The robot is sensitive enough to reproduce even the lightest brush stroke by changing the amount of pressure the brush applies.
