How to Move a Rail Line in a Single Night

On March 15, 2013, the platforms for the Toyoko Line at Shibuya Station moved from the second floor to the fifth floor basement, ending the line's 85-year history of above-ground operations. When the last train rolled into the station, 1,200 workers were standing by waiting, in a massive coordinated effort, to relocate the entire span of train tracks before the first train would roll in at 5 a.m. They had less than four hours to complete the task.
