In September 2015, Takara Tomy released its Linear Liner, a miniature version of the new Maglev Shinkansen (bullet train) that's currently in the testing phase by the Central Japan Railway Company. The real train practically flies at speeds well in excess of 500 kilometers per hour (311 mph).

The Linear Liner toy drives with the same magnetic mechanism as the actual Shinkansen. It floats a bit by magnetic energy, making a 2-millimeter gap between the vehicle and the rail, and runs at 6 to 7 kilometers per hour (about 4 mph) , which makes the speed over 500 kilometers per hour according to scale speed (a measure of how fast a vehicle drives in relation to the full size model).
